How Do I Pursue the “Passionate One”?
God is love. He is a God of love. He is the essence of love. So, why not call Him the “Passionate One”? He passionately pursues you. He passionately loves you. He passionately longs to lavish His love on you.
Ok, that sounds foreign—some kind of Christian jargon. So, let’s get down to plain talk. Let’s discover who He is.
The Bible talks about the world beginning with the creation of a beautiful garden and two blameless people who walked and talked with God. They were truly innocent – they didn’t even know that they were naked. But it didn’t stay that way. They chose to turn away from God and sin entered the world, and with it guilt, shame, regret. Humankind was no longer blameless. But God still loved the world that He created and so He sent His Son to redeem it.
Jesus, God’s Son, was so passionate about making a way for mankind to spend eternity with Him that He came, and died, and rose again to clean our hearts from the stain of sin.
If you had a chance to watch The Passion of Christyou will remember the brutal scenes that so vividly portrayed the torture inflicted on Jesus. Now, this is love! He stood silently before those accusing Him and He took all that punishment for YOU and for ME.
Jesus did that because He is “The Passionate One” – the only One who ever lived who portrayed true passion. It is by His example of true passion that we understand the meaning of passion.
Because of Jesus: We have the opportunity to live in right relationship with God.
True Passion: Because of God’s passion, we can live eternally in heaven. Because of passion—true passion—our sins are forgiven and we are free from guilt and shame.
God’s Passion: Makes it possible for us to know Him personally.
God's Love: "God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life" (John 3:16).
God's Plan: "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent" (John 10:7-10).
Do you know Him? It stands to reason that in order to experience TRUE PASSION that you must KNOW “The Passionate One”!
You can meet Christ—The Passionate One—right now by faith through prayer. Prayer is talking with God. God knows your heart and is not so concerned with your words as He is with the attitude of your heart. The following is a suggested prayer:
Lord Jesus, I need You. My life is incomplete without You. I am undeserving of Your love because I have sinned and am in need of a Savior. Forgive me for my sins. Thank You for taking my punishment and dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. Amen.
